Formula One news: Senna Jr. to drive Uncle's McLaren - GPUpdate.net Formula One
Bruno Senna will be joining Lewis Hamilton in driving Ayrton Senna's 1988 McLaren up the Goodwood hill this weekend. The Brazilian will be taking the famous route in the MP4/4 which took his Uncle and team-mate Alain Prost to all but one of the Grand Prix victories available during the season twenty-one years ago.
With Goodwood's Festival of Speed getting underway on Friday and running until Sunday, a selection of motorsport cars and drivers will be available at the annual celebration, in which 2008 GP2 runner-up Bruno will be driving the Honda-powered McLaren - the car which took the late Ayrton to the first of three F1 titles - on Friday and Saturday.
"Driving this hugely powerful turbo engined 'monster' will be a great experience for me on one of my weekends off from my Le Mans Series programme," said Senna, who will be controlling the car which, like most of McLaren's winners, is housed at the team's Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. "It is hugely motivating to drive such an historic car and especially to be trusted by the same people that ran Ayrton to all those victories back in the 80s."
Having already visited the team's factory for a seat fitting, the 25-year-old is keen to present the legendary machine to the public with his ultimate goal remaining firmly in the mind. "An F1 car from this era is not too similar to a current F1 car and Goodwood is not exactly a Grand Prix venue either, but I am sure this fun weekend will only serve to whet my appetite again for F1," continued Bruno, who had hoped to drive alongside Jenson Button at Brawn this year.
This year's event infact marks the second time that Bruno will be driving the '88 McLaren, however, having also done so at the Festival of Speed in 2005. Hamilton, who will share turns in the car with Bruno, will also be seen at the wheel of his own championship-winning MP4/23 of 2008.
