To Full Frame or to not Full Frame that is the question

Awesome, and congrats.
And I say play if you can!!!!
I've been suffering through tons of work this week, knowing my new toy is sitting at home. And it's been amazingly beautiful, sunny, colorful trees, etc. outside... perfect fall days.
That's why all the pictures and video in this post are in darkness
play, Play, PLAY!

Otto is always a good model for me. Both shot at 1.8 and 1600iso!

well....now I think I DO want to move to the D700 or D3. What is your go to most used lens in Full Frame format? Should I budget the 24-70 2.8 into my purchase? My 17-55 2.8 DX is my main go to now so I would think the 24-70 would be the closest thing out there and there is no gap when I go to my 70-200...
Any suggestions that I might be missing? I will give it until the big photo show next month to see if the D800 gets announced before I make a purchase, but I might start keeping my eyes out for a 24-70 now.
Trying to decide if I really need to keep the D300s as a back up body, I don't shoot professionally and have never really had the need for two bodys...so do I keep the D300s and 17-55 as back up or sell it all to finance the next step? hmmm
So for sale D200 w/grip, D300s w/grip and 17-55 2.8...maybe...hmmm

See, this is why I told you to go full-frame right off the bat!
My go-to lens on the D700 has been the 50mm f/1.4. It's just so versatile on this body and the results never cease to amaze me. I also use my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 a lot too but the 50mm is by far my favorite. The D700 just loves that lens too. At night with that lens wide open is like having night vision at the higher ISOs.
If you sell the D300s, I might be interested in it to replace my D200 as a backup. Let me know how much you want for it.

The big question is the replacement d800? Due this spring/summer.
My biggest complaint with my d300 is not sensitivity or resolution, it is the number of stops it can capture.
This is the one area that film still beats digital. Lots of tricks with photoshop can help, but the latitude of pan-x film still beats digital hands down.

Rob Rob Rob, why didn't you come to me with this question? I'd have told you right off the bat like Alex to go with the D700. You can easily find one for a great price now that it's near the end of its model life cycle. *sigh* Well, definitely get the 24-70 if you can swing it. It's easily the most versatile lens out there and goes perfectly with the D700. I use it for 85% of my pictures most times. I prefer the D700/24-70 by a huge margin over even the D3/24-70. I wish I had seen this thread sooner.
