Camcorder advice needed

Camcorder advice needed
My Sony DVD Handycam is having issues, the protective shutter over the lens is jammed and doesn't open anymore.
I guess it's time for an upgrade; what do you guys recommend? I mainly shoot films of the kids. Not much into fancy editing etc.
