Post Spied: The New Audi A3

Spied: The 2013 Audi A3

Winter testing has started again in Northern Sweden and our Teamspeed spies are stationed with cameras in hand. The first to be spotted is the new Audi A3 during some snowy testing in the late evening and wearing the dizzying patterned wrap Audi and BMW have no become famous for.

The new A3 will come in four different body styles, first out will be the 3 door hatch, followed by a 5 door hatch , called a Sport-back. The convertible will follow shortly after and for the first time there will also be a four door sedan.

The powertrain lineup for the new A3 will be exclusively turbocharged, most likely using the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines in the current A3. Europeans will as usual have a bigger engine more engine options to chose from. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the US will see an S3, which would most likely use the 265-hp turbo four found in the TTS.

Stay tuned for more details soon.

The interior better have big changes, because the exterior shape is VERY similar to the current one. FWIW, the 3-door version (pictured) looks a little odd in person. I much prefer the 5-door like we currently have.

I think the sportback (5 doors) is too a4avnt like...

Why did they choose those headlight? why...

The back end seems to be a little more knife shapped, I like it!

huangester is an unknown quantity at this point
the new Porsche 991 rear LED light is similar to the current A3. Don't know if they will still continue the look on the rear light...

Chris, I was just in Germany for Q5 Hybrid training, and Audi did a product presentation one evening where no phones or camera were allowed. One of the cars they brought out was this new A3 and it was truly awesome. It had sharp clean lines and awesome lighting-quite progressive. The sportback version will be a win for sure!

That's good news - I just hope my wife doesn't expect an upgrade too soon!

I completely agree... I almost will always prefer the 3-door hatch looks, but the 5-door just seems to fit the A3's shape better.

Anyway, let's start the speculation right away -- S3, or RS3 coming to the states? Probably not.
