Mark, FWIW, my wife and I are going to get a 2012 Ti package S4 with S-Tronic (the 7-speed dual-clutch). That's a big difference between the pre-2010 cars and the earlier S4s - the newer ones have the dual-clutch. It makes a big difference. Looking forward to hearing your decision!

Mark have you considered the 335i? I think it's a great alternative. Especially for you it sounds like 335xi or 335d would be cool choices.

I would take it over an A4. Versus an S4 is close, but I wouldn't spend the premium on the S, especially for your use of the car.

Mark, don't forget that the A6/S6 models that you drove are 'old' models now. The C6 chassis is being replaced. New A6 model hasn't hit the US dealers yet. They will very soon.
The new A4 is considerably bigger than the model it replaces and so comparing it with the outgoing A6 is not fair.

You really can't go wrong with modern Audis. The stock 2.0T has received a power increase and is very torquey. However, the S4 is a much better car dynamically.

I've been with Audi since 2005 and having a hard time switching to other brands. I've been spoiled by Audi's superb quality that is unmatched in the market.

The new A4/S4 variants aren't that bad. I think if I go with one I'll get an S4 if I can find the right price. Nice driver. Not too big and not too small inside. Much different than the models from just a few years ago on inside size.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll let you know if someone can find me a good deal on one.

That new A6 looks great! Refreshed front end.

Have you thought about a Infiniti G37S Sedan? Comes with a manual 6-speed, 328hp RWD... I'd take one over an A4 anyday.

I love the current S4, especially in black with the 19" wheels. If I could afford it, I would have a GT3 and one of these for a DD.
