Are the older S4's worth buying?

Well this is true for almost any german engineered car... its all about preventative maintenance. Sounds like the Audi has quite a bit more than I realized. They're such beautifully styled cars though.

All I know is I love my B6 S4. Over 70k miles on her and she keeps ticking like brand new. I used to hate V8's but I love the way Audi makes them. As for repairs, the only thing I have to replace is the motor mounts. Not expensive at all either, 380$ for all of them. Not to mention they are hydraulic motor mounts. Other than that oil change every 10k miles which is cheaper if you get it changed at an Audi dealership than any where else. Only reason I don't do it is I can't get under my car with out a proper floor jack. The Quattro all-wheel drive system is perfect for all types of weather. I have no need for studded tires or chains in the snow or ice. I really can't complain about the car at all. All black interior, leather Recaro seats, heated seats, 6spd, ESP (traction control toggle switch), Halogen headlights, heated windshield and headlight washers, Navigation system, Bose sound system...etc. I could keep going forever. The only 4 door I would upgrade to from this is an Audi RS4. Also watch the episode of Top Gear that features the same year S4 I have, It's on youtube.

I agree 110%, people just need to take care of the cars they own. Almost any car is a reliable car.

Want to try your theory on a mid 80's Jag sedan?

Yeah, pretty sure you have trouble reading. I told you that they babied their cars. In fact, both of them had b6 and b7 S4's at a point in time as well - and know what they're doing [one of them owns a shop lol.] Were you a regular on audizine or audiworld?

Hahahaha, that's funny!! And it is true for the most part, but like someone else said how do I know a retard didnt own it previously?
