Ferrari Arno XI on sale
Surely the most famous and recognisable racing boat on the planet, the Arno XI was developed by Achille Castoldi. Between 1952 and 1953, Castoldi along with Alberto Ascari and Luigi Villoresi convinced Enzo Ferrari to lend his knowledge and technical expertise to develop a machine that could compete against the Guidotti family and their Maserati-powered boats. The result is the phenomenal 600+ horsepower Ferrari 375 twin-supercharged G.P. 52/1 “Nautico” engine.
On the 15th of October, 1953 on Lake Iseo, the Arno XI established the world speed record of 241.708 km/h; a record that, in its class, has never been defeated. Subsequently the boat was sold to Eng. Nando dell’Orto who continued to race the Arno XI successfully for another 10 years. Beautifully restored in 1993 the Arno XI is without a doubt an extremely important piece of Ferrari history and, as few can claim, truly one-of-a-kind.
The boat will go on auction to the RM Auctions in Monte Carlo the 11th of May, the boat worth over 2 milion €.
