Do you have experience with engines? If it were me and calm water I would look at haller, hondo, sanger, can-am v-drive drag boats. If you want a "weed-eater" powered boat I would look at checkmate, superboat, powerplay, obsession, stoker, progression, and skater. Thats my 2cents. Hope it helps!
i would touch one with an 11 ft pole! they are nice and historic/classic!

You guys play nice. Nothing beats the class of a classic mahogany boat. And yes, thay can be set up to do 70 safely.

Very true we purchased a Hackercraft for one of our clients their 22' Gentleman's racer, mid engine, bench seat helm behind the engine, v-drive Merc 496 ho straight piped, looks classic, sounds mean, does nearly 80mph
was not cheap though, Mahogany boats are very expensive.

this looks like a 30 off their site, the 22 ends between the two cockpits

thanks for all the help guys - to answer some questions

I would mainly use this boat to tool around in, - very seldomly pull an inflatable or two.

It would be used on a small lake, so 23 foot is definitely max size..

I would like to be able to loung on the backside of it- possibly covering an I/O setup.

I prefer I/O to outboards....but not sure why - - I guess growing up I always liked the sound of the big v8's with the thru trans exhaust.

thanks for all the recommendations.. .. very helpful as always

The ultimate 21' performance boat for me would be a Schiada River Cruiser. Probably some of the finest 21' ski boats/hot rods on the planet. I'd have mine with a supercharged bbc and a v-drive. Check them out.
