Traffic stop?
#22
I can see why the cop pulled the gun. When you watch the show cops on TV do they pull the guy over who was running and walk up politely and ask him to get out of the car?? No, they have their guns drawn. If the guy was running from them he could be running from far worse and have a gun of his own, which no one knows until the very end. I would rather have my gun out and not need it then have it holstered and need it.
In terms of the plain clothes. He was in a police car, heard what was happening, and decieded to help out. Or he was on duty and is just a plain clothes officer working narcotics.
I am amazed then caught him, when someone runs around here they give up cause they don't want the rider to crash, die and have his whoevers sue for wrongful death.
Rant over. Resume.

Errrr ... he was not running. When a biker runs, the scenery goes by a lot more quickly.
And since when is a grey Impala with no cherries a police car?
That looked more like a car-jacking than a police stop.

He isn't that bright for doing the speeds it looked like he was doing in traffic. With that said, there is no reason in that situation for an unmarked (or private car off duty) to cut someone off and a non-uniformed guy to jump out with his gun drawn. Escalation of force and all that, the biker had no obvious weapons, wasn't trying to flee and generally wasn't any kind of threat.
Dunno about MD, but in NV the unmarked cars with detectives tend to just light you up so you slow down, they don't want to make traffic stops. Chances are this guy is just off duty and a turd with nothing better to do. Charing someone with "felony recording" is just low class revenge tactics for the video going on the web. Hopefully the guy has lawyered up, to do time for that would be a shame.

since this is an automotive thread, i have to correct you - that's a malibu not an impala
just to add something i didn't see mentioned...as he started accelerating he passed that malibu that pulled him over, and did anyone see the trooper parked in the median? it's at 1:09...right after he slows down after his blast.
so the cop had a clear view of what the dude was doing, and the trooper probably just followed the malibu.
btw, i guess the right thing here to say is he never should have accelerated to that speed (which i would guess was around 100), that being said, he should not have slowed down, that was a big no no in my riding days. you just never know who you end up in front of...just like this guy.

the helmet cam wasn't put up to spy on potential illegal police activity, it's simply a helmet cam to record driving footage. the cop's behavior was an incidental finding. i hope the charges don't stick (and they shouldn't in the USA) because there was no criminal intent on the riders behalf. should the cop be relieved of duty? imo, absolutely. there is no visible badge displayed at ANY time, there is a 5 sec delay after the weapon is drawn and when he identifies himself. the cop here is clearly acting out of road rage.
