BTW -- If you go with the 675, look into the Two Bros. slip-on. I'm still deciding myself (between Two Bros. and Jardine), but leaning in that direction. Decisions...

It doesn't "need" an exhaust (unless you really want one). It's super light as is so dropping weight isn't at the top of the list.

The rear spring is garbage. Absolute garbage. Way too stiff for US roads and it's of poor construction--spring rate varies through the travel, and not in a good way. It's stupid bouncy on bumpy roads--fine for the track but not on US pavement. Fortunately you can get a new one for a hundred bucks or so from RaceTech. Doing so absolutely transforms the bike. Don't follow RaceTech's recommendations for weight, get a good suspension guy to set you up with the right one. I ended up with one a good 2.0 softer than what RaceTech recommended. I'm told you can get the same springs from Eibach for a few bucks less but I don't speak Eibach so I went with Racetech to make sure I got the right one.

If you want to go bigger there's the Elka or Penske shock setups for ~700 bones.

If you want power / rideability the thing to get is the Tuneboy / Tuneedit software:

TuneBoy - Engine Management Systems

It's a cable you plug into your ECU that lets you control the timing, mixture, redline, etc. Plus it lets you correct your speedo, read and reset error codes, and do all the stuff the dealer techs can do. Tuneboy + a custom dyno tune would give you way more power than a full exhaust system.

It's pretty good out of the box, it comes with stainless brake lines and the OEM brakes / pads are excellent, as are the OEM Supercorsa pros (which are NOT the same as the aftermarket Supercorsas, fyi). The only weak link is the spring and that is both easy and cheap to fix. Get a good setup and you're good to go!

Awesome info Sean!

So, with gear on, I'll be around 200lbs- what do you weigh? I'm surprised about the spring on the rear. Who makes the OEM do you know?

The Exhaust is more a function of 'ear porn' then HP gains or weight gains. I love a sexy sounding exhaust. Allegedly the Arrow system does not need a tuneboy, but having had a PWRCMDRIII in my last RC I'm familiar with the plug and play set ups.

Elka doesn't have the best of reputations around here. Sure they're shiny, but performance and durability are barely adequate.

I'm probably 160 with gear, 155 maybe. I think I got a 7.5. Racetech recomended a 9.5 (if I'm remembering all this right), which is their stiffest, which would have been stupid. The 7.5 has me running compression right smack in the middle, so it's perfect. I'm guessing you'd be an 8.5 at 200. A friend who's 175 said my bike felt great to him too. Dunno who makes the OEM, might be in-house.

If you can afford it, do the forks too.

If you're tracking it, make sure to check oil--they'll burn oil when run really hard. I don't burn any on the street but have burned quite a bit on track.

If you want to cheap out you can just get a dealer to change the map. The beauty of the Triumph ECU is that it accepts new maps itself, there's no hardware (Tuneboy has no hardware, it's just software!) You can get a dealer to upload the "offroad pipe" map which is slightly richer. I'm sad to say that after two years of ownership I'm still running that map in my Tuneboy. Sometimes you can find maps for the more common exhaust setups to upload.

This reminds me, I need new brake pads.

They make shocks. Pretty bling bling, they claim to be top notch. But they're built in Qc (first warning sign ) and many have concerns over their actual quality. I actually know roadracers who were given shocks as sponsorship ... and didn't want to run them.



They're more ATV-level than sportbike IMO.

I'd stick to Ohlins or just revalving the OEM.
