1977 Gibson L-5S Custom Guitar
Up for sale is a 1977 Gibson L-5S Custom in a gorgeous 3-tone tobacco sunburst (the last year of this color) complete with original case. During the 70s, the L-5S was the flagship model of the Gibson guitar range, with a total of only 1813 units produced (versus the Les Paul Custom with over 50,000). This L-5S is all original except for the replacement of the pickups with two ’57 Classic Gibson humbuckers. The guitar was originally purchased by country and western recording artist Red Peterson and has authentic wear for a guitar of this age. The tailpiece has oxidation and there is some light checking on the rear as well as thumb wear on the neck (see photos). The guitar plays great and the overall fit and finish surpasses anything in the current Gibson lineup. The L-5S Custom features a carved flamed maple top and back with superlative seven-ply binding, a flamed maple neck with ebony fingerboard (with exquisite mother-of-pearl inlays), and gold-plated hardware and gold controls.
