I'm on a photography kick these days and want to jump into the DSLR world. Being a broke student I figure looking used would be a good way to pick-up some decent equipment. I also figure you guys would be a good place to come for some honest dealings. If any of you are upgrading (body or body + lens') and want to get rid of your equipment please send me a pm.

I'm looking to spend no more than 1500, but bounce an idea off me and we can go from there.

Cheers to any offers and or suggestions.

For 1500 you can go new... what are you plan'n to shot?

Something like a Nikon D5000 kit or jump into a D90 is more than enough for most users

I see you upped your budget since we last talked. That'll make this easier.

I'd start by looking for used D90's (they're hard to come by though as most people seem to love theirs) because they should be in the $6-700 dollar range on the used market. This is for the body only. Then you'll need some lenses. I'd recommend picking up the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 since it's one of the best zoom lenses you can buy for the money ($350 used, $450 new) and maybe pick up a Nikkor 85 f/1.8 to give you a bit of reach as well ($2-300 I think?). That should pretty much eat up the bulk of your budget with a little bit left over for extra batteries, filters, memory cards, etc.

cheap body, good glass

I know nothing about Nikons, but you can pick a 20D for 300$ ... solid camera and leaves you with 1000$ for lenses, not bad at all.

Perfect combo imo. 17-50 2.8 and 85 1.8.

I missed out on that D80 combo I pm'd you about, and then decided to do it right the first time and $1500 seems like a threshold that opens a whole lot more.

Keep any suggestions coming and if anyone is selling anything, let me know!

I'd definitely go with the D90. I love mine! even though I really dont know how to use it properly lol. Can't take picture if it were to save my life! only one worse than me is probably Jox

I have a Nikon D100 that's in great condition that I'm trying to sell. I'm not sure if that's a little too dated for you, but it's a good camera. I would keep it, as it's always treated me well, but I just don't have a need for it.
