You're completely off base there. They might be building too many of them, but it is most definitely a modern hypercar in every single respect.

I agree - the result the 918 achieved is pretty stellar. I had long ago written it off in my head as too heavy and under-powered to be a serious contender but Porsche proved that with technology and a lot of focus to improving their product it could still be competitive, offering a bump in horsepower and additional weight savings as time went on.
I do think its a bit silly that the Weissach package they ran their impressive 6:57 Ring lap time with gets it 88 pound weight improvement largely from deleting the radio and air conditioning - the second one I wouldn't wish to live without in any car, especially one approaching $1M. Other than that, they have produced a great product very worthy of the brand.

One thing that I can say if there is any similarity between the P1 and the 12C, the time around any circuit will be achievable by more than just the hired driver. There are times out there that can not be repeated by owners because the brand hires a pro who's not worried about wiping out. The 12C makes everybody a good driver.
