McLaren back at the Ring' with the P1

The British publication Car Magazine reports that McLaren is back at the Nurburgring with its P1 supercar, attempting to set the fastest lap time ever achieved by a production road car. It seems Porsche has done a great job at rattling the feathers of McLaren and Ferrari, as both have been spotted of late on the Green Hell, since the Porsche's 918 record ring run.

CAR's spy photographer watched the pre-production P1, code named XP2R, attacking the ‘Ring yesterday, and reported it’s the fastest car he’s ever seen shoot past his lens on the famous circuit.

We all anxiously await to see if McLaren can in-fact dethrone Porsche's 918 Spyder record ring time of 6:57. Stay tuned!

Seems like McLaren has been busy with version 2.0 updates. Article states any upgrades will be transferred to prior delivered P1 cars ala 12C program. It will likely be N/C update!

I love the P1. I am convinced it will be the fastest on track among the Ferrari and Porsche counterparts. But like alwin said, competition is better for all consumers. Can't wait to see final numbers and MORE VIDEOS!

My money is on it shattering the number. Too much HP and too much car. The 918 wasn't made for this anyway, so being 2nd isn't all that bad.

 

I'll take that bet. P1 might better the 918 time but not by much, so what. Shattering no way! torque too low and battery too small. Don't kid yourself about the 918 not built for THIS. 'this' is what Porsche only do

 

We shall see. I prefer the 918 win. To me, shattering the time is 5 secs faster.
