From what I understood, it would be an option. If I lived in a wintery, rainy place I would be very happy about this. Don't need it in FL though.

This might be helpful for the M5 Estate sales solely, I dont think AWD is needed for the sedan as much; completely different purpose.

 

Love the AWD option.

 

*This* is the car I hoped they would make. I've bleated on about it for a while, but my E60 M5 struggled for traction in the first two gears with R-compounds on it, even. It really spoiled the enjoyment. Sure, 3rd and 4th gear blasts were awesome, but the performance envelope was only really breathtaking at 'arrest me, officer' speeds.
