Post BMW ///M Division - The Road Ahead

"The next generation M5 is due in 2011 and with a year to go, the rumors around the highly expected model are started to pile up. At times, it can be difficult to discern the truth from speculations, or to filter through the amount of misinformation and clues, but our duty remains to report these news as well and give counterarguments if needed.

With information coming from multiple sources (some mention north of 600 hp, others around 580 hp), the truth is that the new M5’s specs still remain a mystery and when BMW is ready to reveal more information, we will be one of the first to see them.

Without any further ado, let’s have a look at what Scott27, an BMW insider has to say about the upcoming M5 and Motorsport division’s future plans. Is it all true? Maybe. Can things change in the near future? Absolutely. In an industry where being able to dynamically and fast change things, is crucial to adapt to new requirements or changing markets."

578bhp from a TT V8 will not be enough to satisfy their fan base. But until BMW reveals the spec, everything else is speculation and I will continue to wait with bated breath.

No it won't! Don't care for a TT V8.

I think the fans are quite satisfied now that the new M5 actually is not beaten with an ugly stick and once again looks like a BMW.

Now if they can just get back to driver centric dash, that would be awesome.

I think almost all the german auto manufactures ie audi, bmw, and audi, have lost sight of what always made them appealing. Audi should go back to turbo cars, that what they were know for and what i always admired about them, mercedes was slight more brutish with having the most comfortable cars and big displacement engines, and bmw was the true drivers car with n/a engines that were super hi revving.

i understand the idea to be more fuel efficant and turbo and supercharged cars are more efficient and make great hp, but i feel like the should go back to there respective roots.

the e39 m5 is hands down one of the best bmw's of all time and really had everything comfortable, fast, and amazing looks. i think a tt v8 in the new car is gonna suck alot.

just my .02

V8TT is the right direction, let's hope they keep the 3 pedal option.

How does 578hp for a 100k sports sedan NOT satisfy the fan base? That's absurd.

Porsche has 385hp on their S model and it's faster then stink.

HP war has gotten to the point of 'who's weiner is bigger' BS.
