If I recall correctly, it was a 40-60mpg system. As production was set up, one of the large oil companies (no names) got wind of it and bought the patent for somewhere in the tens-of-millions range. It was shelved. We supplied the material for the pattern - that is why I know this. Call BS if you want, it won't hurt my feelings - but that is fact.
I believe there are more than a few stories like this and I also believe most of them to be true, especially yours since you say you were there. The way oil companies will deal with the higher fuel efficiency is with higher pump prices b/c of the decreased demand. Either way they win.....

Maybe I can drive one then...

Since the CLK is going away all together and being replaced with the E Coupe and AMG has announced there will not be a Black Series in that lineup, I doubt there will ever be anything quite like the 2008 CLK63 Black Series.

Perhaps you glanced over the points I made about the specifics of CAFE or upcoming EISA standards. If BMW wanted to continue to make high HP cars, they would. There are all types of avenues they could explore to continue to do so and meet the federal regulations (both current and upcoming), IMO. But, it's pretty clear we're not going to agree on this, which is fine.

No battle, just good debate. Thanks for the props on the fleet.
