I'd love to see the next M3 be a stripped down lighter car with a twin turbo 6 in it.

I like the idea of a stripped down back to 6 cylinder M3, however, the new M3 was a great step up from driving an e39 M5 in terms of also being a very usable DD. However, the issue of a turbocharged M3 is worrying to me as I have become rather spoiled by the high revving N/A engine of the current e92M. Lightweight, high displacement 6 cylinder would be my vote with, paired with a lighter chassis would be very interesting to me. The fact that it won't be around until 2015, doesn't completely rule out the production of an e92 CSL in my view, despite what BMW has stated in their press releases. The more focussed 1 series M would definitely be on my radar.

Guest, thanks for the post.

You're welcome.

Other commentaries on the Ludwig Willisch interview (specifically motortrend's) seemed to think that the 1-series M/"M1" (obviously an unlikely name) would be more like the venerable E30. Either way, I hope they continue to provide versatile DD's like the current E9x M3 that can also dice with dedicated sports cars, as well as a true successor to the driving pleasure of the E30 chassis. Bonus points if this back-to-basics car is attractive and affordable.

The "M1" will definitely be on my radar.

Same here. I'm glad that it won't be coming down the pipeline quite yet so it'll give me some time to get things in order so I can afford one when it does come out! Under 3000 lbs with more than 300 bhp sounds like a winning combination to me!
