I am just warming my back back up again before going as heavy as I normally do. I usually do a 225# warmup, then 315# x5 for 4 sets, then 405# x3 for 3 sets. On my 1RM for 7 sets day (a few months back, not recently), I would typically go 365x2, 405x2, 455, 460 (50% pass/fail), 460 (fail).

I am around 6'3" depending on the day and how my back feels haha.

I believe you need to try various times to see what works for you. I prefer a 9:30 sesh if I wake at 7 or so, followed by a 4 p.m. sesh, but that is when I am deployed overseas.

When I am in the US, I try to go as early as possible to get it out of the way.

I believe that if you A-get adequate sleep and B-are well hydrated and ate a decent meal the night before, an early morning workout will suit you well. However, I also feel that working out in the afternoon is good because your body is completely "awake" and all of your joints are lubricated from the day's events.

In the end, it comes down to personal preference. Try different times over a few weeks to see how your body responds.

SoCal,

I heard a lot about guys in the armed forces competing and even that there are special comps for Soldiers only,..ever thought about that?
There are some really massive beasts in your Army!
Mostly Marines/AF guys though?
Why is that?Do they have more time and options to w/o ?(carrier etc)

I prefer evening for weights. Although I'm up early most mornings, I'm not a morning person. I know from experience that I'm actually stronger (from a max strength perspective) in the afternoon. I like morning cardio, evening weights.

ECB, I am no longer in the Armed Forces. If I ever had the urge to compete, it would be something akin to the Crossfit Games, and I will NEVER be on the plane of fitness that those athletes walk on.

I agree that there are some absolute Manimals in the military.

The biggest guys are usually desk jockeys that are non-deployable, at least in my experience. A lot of Navy guys that are on carriers and subs are pretty big as well, but they have pretty routine schedules; hence their size.

There are some interesting statistics that show that working out before having eaten breakfast has some benefits. I don't believe there's any "time of day" that's best, really depends on your schedule and eating habits.

Competing involves devoting your every waking moment to it, especially with the caliber of people you're going up against. I don't care to live my life that way...

Fasted cardio burns x% more fat, weights I don't think any study has been done. I don't see how lifting with glycogen depleted would be helpful.

I think that all depends on the intensity you put into lifting said weights...

You should really always be lifting with intensity, but the study about fasted cardio had nothing to do with weights. Unless the weights are your legs and you're lifting them over and over again while doing something like running.
