You are correct about making faster lap times with an automatic Porsche, but there is a better and more fun way to be faster, buying a GT2, of course I am not the client for a PDK (automatic) GT3, I go to diferent tracks at least once a month but not in real races, just track days, and it is fun to set the fastest time but it is more fun to me the feeling of dominating and working hard on a manual Porsche or Ferrari or any other sport car, Traction control off and down shifting with hill and toe, and yes I am consideing a Manual Carrera S if the GT3 RS will be automatic. Damn. I sound like my grandpa

I'd just like a pole of people who have driven any of the newer racecars on the track who are still sticking for the manual. I LOVE driving manual cars and have an absolute blast when I do...but thats for cars that manual was the designed application...eg a 996 or 997 GT3, or BMW m3 (though the later ones with DCT are just as awesome), the e39 m5...or even a 67 Shelby GT350 (just took one out and had a riot)...but when a car is developed using new technology, like the e60 m5 was for instance...IMHO thats the way the car "should" be experienced. Is it fun to drive a manual trans from time to time...yes...is it a massive "man" experience to row your own? Hell ya...but let me tell you, when you really are pushing 10/10ths, you see how much of the work you put into your feet can go into pushing the car around the track faster and I don't care who you are, if you are in a modern car, you ARE going to feel happier with faster lap times. (Now if you are hooning around in a RSA and just going to laughs, thats totally different).

The new 991 platform is so advanced (and different from it's fore-bearers), it would almost be a shame to let human input during certain parts take away from what makes it brilliant. But hey, that's just me...and yes, I have one of the first in my area on order and totally excited.
