Report: New Porsche 911 GT3 To Feature PDK Transmission Only
#61
Hi Gray TT,
I wish youre source was right..but I doubt it..why? What kind of logic is this - the RS should be closer to the CUP Version..so offering this one with manual makes even less sense then compared to the normal GT3.
What really interests me - why will the RS then come 1,5 year later to the market..if its just 30HP more..whats the problem there..?
The whole things doesnt make sense - my bet - iff 991 GT3 will only be PDK - the 991 GT3RS will be even more "PDK only".
All this is for sure good news for current 997 GT3 owners..last GT1 engine block + last manual + last GT3 with normal handbrake, no e-steering etc..
This will hold the values quite well..and I wasnt aware that RS values have gone up by 10K in the US.I admire you guys..youre smart. Europeans are too stupid to realise what I just worte..but lest see..I bet you once 991 GT3 PDK is confirmed..prices will go up again for 997 GT3...and with 140,000-150,000$ new price for 991 GT3..a 997 GT3 will be more or less a bargain..
Whether the new one is then 1,8sec or 2,3 sec faster wont be so relevant...

Sorry but what's the Cup box got to do with this?
Cups have been running sequentials for the longest... and the new Cup will have flappys connected to a brand new sequential box set up.

A sequential will not be there for normal GT3s..thats clear...maintenance cost would be prohibitive..

agreed - but what I was trying to say that some (many?) buyers want to have something close to the sequentail Cup version in their GT3..and then a PDK is closer than a manual.

If they would only do this -----> https://teamspeed.com/forums/gt/1211...-day-ruff.html

I am not saying the 991 GT3 Cup... but you will see the PDK on the track relatively soon. After all it's wins that Motorsports wants and PDK is (like is or not) the way forward...

OK - thanks for the impressions on the RUF..
If not a PDK in a CUP (which I would doubt seriously anyway - it would crumble into pieces)..- where then?
Anyway, as you say..we will see. If youre wrong youll offer me a ride in the GT2RS

what we have to remember is the gt3 has been the best all round gt car ever! porsche aren't going to mess things up with there sales, in race and road cars, even though they are the last to the party with the pdk system it will be right i'm sure, the number 1 flying lizard car was racing with paddles last year at sebring and the new cup cars will have the new system, the debates are the same as when 993/ 996 went from air to water cooled! wait to we get some real pics and the jurno's start raving over the new set up and gear change speeds bla bla and i bet the old manuel will soon be forgotten, yes it is great gearbox but it's time to move on and as long as porsche get it right it will be a gem , as we know a lot of people who comment on these issues haven't actually driven the cars, look forward to geneva in march to see the new car in the flesh

The GT3 is gonna end up being like a BMW M3 with the DCT transmission. Sure it opens the car up to a market of people that don't want a manual transmission, but at the same time it really goes against what the car has been for so long. Yes a lot of racing is moving towards paddle shifters, but it'll make this car kinda boring on the road and track for amateur racers if you ask me.
