Report: New Porsche 911 GT3 To Feature PDK Transmission Only
The hard-core 911 loses its third pedal, sheds a few pounds, and gets a power boost

As we mentioned earlier in the week, the next-gen 911 GT3 is slated to be unveiled at the 2013 Geneva motor show next March, which we are all very excited about of course, but today we're delivering news that some enthusiasts may cry foul about. Our sources have given us confirmation that there will be no manual transmission offered in the new GT3, only flappy paddles. Sure it will be more precise, and faster around the ring, but does this officially mark the end of the manual transmission in all our harder-core Porsche's going forward? Sure looks that way.

We've mentioned on many occasions that August Achleitner confirmed Porsche's motorsport division was testing both manual and PDK versions of the new GT3, but our sources tell us the decision has been long made, and a re-tuned 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung will be the only transmission available. The rumor of the "optional charge" manual transmission has been squashed as well.

Power is expected to be around 450 horsepower, which should translate to a 0-62 mph time of less than 4.0 seconds, and a top speed tapping out near 200mph.

The new 991 GT3 will feature aero bits unique to it, including an all-new rear wing design, and massive multi-spoke center-lock wheels. An RS version of the GT3 should appear roughly 12-24 months later. We'd look for at least 485 hp out of the box from the RS variant.

 

That blows. Might as well get a GTR.

Indeed - but no real surprise to me - Porsche doesnt listen to is customers anymore.

However, its good news for the 997 GT variants..they will be the last ones with manual, the last ones with the GT1 engines..

I bet you in 5 years a 997.2 GT3 will be worth more than a used 991 GT3..if you see the massive drop in value for 991s..

Never!!!. Problem is, I was just about to pull the trigger on a 4.0 a year ago but decided to wait for the 991. FUUUUCCKKKK.

That makes already two of us..my 997 GT babies will not be sold either..

 

bad move.. too early to stop production.. another few years maybe but there are still plenty of people out there who prefer a manual
