Porsche to offer "Race Track" package for 918 Spyder

As for the GT Racing comment...I think you're spot on. The 991 GT series cars should get Porsche back in the game, but a mid-engined Porsche GT racer would have such a better chance.

Porsche knows they need to get all the 918s sold that they can before letting the 960 out the door. All of you lucky SOBs that can afford one will get one, with most of you passing on the 918. They know that and so they're doing what they can to 'protect' 918 sales by these large payments leading up to delivery. But once the new mid-engine 96X hits, they know there will be ZERO bites on the 918.

If not 991.2, then by the next new 911, at a minimum the GT cars will be mid-engined. No question in my mind. It's getting too hard for Porsche to keep up with Ferrari, BMW, etc. in GT racing (i.e. their bread and butter). No one will want to buy a guaranteed loser. The decision will be one like water-cooling - not one they want to make, but one that circumstances determine for them.
