I doubt a PCNA rep would provide a less than optimistic number; no matter what, 1700kg is way too heavy and makes this thing an albatross compared to the Enzo replacement - very disappointing.

I have no doubts that this car will make production because they have already done so much development, and sold about half, but whether or no they'll either build or sell all 918 is another story.

Agreed.

Nothing they say is accurate. They will tell us that is sells out. We all know it won't. I don't have facts, but I don't think that they have sold 50 in the USA. That's just a gut feeling.

I don't want anyone to misunderstand that I think this is anything short of a cool car. It looks great too. It's just that I don't think it's the right move. I would have preferred an 800 HP light weight monster or something to stomp the competition. There is no doubt that the hybrid drive train seems to be making some headway in the market. But when they don't get me interested, that says something. All of em know how many cars I've bought of theirs. It's just way too much up there from what they are producing.

I got an invite to the 918 Spyder launch party next week in Dallas. I'm not sure I really want to go since.. I am not That excited about the car and besides I don't have $750K lying around!

I would go just to see the car, but I'm on a boat in St John and I won't pay that either. I still think many will attend.

I bet you're right; a lot of big time Porsche customers are on this site and RL and I haven't heard anyone say they are definitely getting a 918.

If I could afford it, I'd buy one. It'll be a such a big part of Porsche's history: the defining line of when hybrid and performance worked in sync (for a road car). It looks amazing, plus you know Porsche will lick your nuts to try the rest of anything cool they come out with.

That said, the marketing (the "matching 997 Turbo", release on 9/18, etc.) is a little cynical. Also, while I understand the price is part of doing Porsche's R&D for them, it's a little much. Finally, the production number is too high. I think they'd have sold them all in a production run of 500.

I'd still buy one. And an LFA. And an RS5. I'm a lover of unloved motors.

Great! Now I can sleep in peace! I thought I had to live with the normal 918 Spyder :d

I don't understand why they have to make it so expensive, technology be damned. $450k like the CGT should be enough, just build a few more. Exclusivity? how many times do CGT drivers just "bump" into other CGTs on the road?
