That 'typical' V8 sound that many American cars have is a V8 with a cross plane crank. European V8 cars such as Ferraris have a flat plane crank, which accounts for that distinctive higher pitched sound. The 918 has an RS Spyder V8 which I believe has a flat plane crank.
I was just surprised how similar it sounds to a 458. Listen to the sound of a RGT-8 for example, its totally different.P.S. but I agree that I expressed myself a little uninformed.
