Drove a GT3 for the first time....got let down
So I drove a like new 997.1 GT3 with only 3k miles with the shark pipe, I'll have more pictures of its awesome matte whiteness tomorrow. I have all the GT series cars and was really looking forward to this cult status car!!
but my number one surprise, how come this thing is so comfortable???!! its so much more comfortable and soft than my 6GT2! its almost like riding in a benz when i was tooling around town, then i looked down and saw the shock button, so i press it. still amazingly comfortable compared to my teeth shattering stock 6GT2. it even absorbs bumps like a champ which is a surprise compared to my other pcars.
OKthen my biggest shock #2, -why is this thing so SLOW??!!! i couldn't believe it !!!!@#$%^&* after i drove around town to let the thing warm up, i took it up some highway overpasses and floor it in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, seriously i looked around for some sport, M, or race button. I was so shocked by its slowness, i pressed the sport, shock, and almost the traction control off button but decided against it because this is a buddy's ride.
I'm getting very confused now, so i start driving it like i stole it, u know how it is all the way home, even revving the famous shark pipes to redline at the lights to make me look fast. The sound is quite a bit better than my silent stock 2's, but working with the engine sounds, it does not, the N.A engine sounds surprisingly like an old beetle's and nothing like my 2, because i really cant hear much past the swooshing turbos on the 2.
the shark pipe while good but not as good as i thought with this engine noise, considering they sold thousands of them, and i recommended it and bought it for this ride back when its brand new with 0 miles. and finally after reading all the concerns about this pipe might be too loud?? just go get it, its nothing compared to a stock scud.
still im shocked its this slow, i dont know how much power and torque this has, but i kept waiting for something to kick in pass 5k, but nothing. it feels about as fast as my 2 BEFORE the turbos come in, and i think my 2 has just a little more official power #s, 2nd time i punch it pass redline, i was waiting for some VTEC to come in....., nothing.
by this time, im really dumping it to this porsche sex symbol, this EVO car of the year 100 years in a roll, this porsche of 911s, this mother of all porsche's.....nothing.
it felt so slow even compared to my GT2, but it felt safe, So safe in fact, i can do anything to it and it still look ok, maybe thats why people love this car??
i sat at the lights in neutral and punch it several times, the needle goes around the dial like my 2.....(slow), no hyper action like any of my fcars, that's why people are putting in whatever flywheels in this car????
i read and hear word of mouth for years, how fast this thing is, and now i call bull zhit! this is gotta be the biggest disappointment of my car playing days.
of course i had high expectations, of course im spoiled with my multiple 600+ stock power machines, but i was so looking forward to seeing this thing blow me away, but it didnt. my E60 M5 with exhaust blew me further away than this. the GT3 series cars are always very high on my want and must have list, i lost couple chances on an RS and 4.0, but always think in time i'll get one for sure, but after this, i dont think so.
however, i think the handling and ride combo must make it a fun-er and safe ride than my 2, but seriously i dont know what all the fuss is about. oh, and this car came with new RE11s which are pretty good tires, so i didnt slide nor nothing during my drive, but i think thats because it has inadequate power.
and really didn't test much of its handling because i didnt go up the mountains, but it didnt get my juices going like my 2 in the same stretch of road. i dont even need to bring my scud into this conversation.
i called a local fellow GT3 specialist and asked him why this szit is so slow WHILE driving it, and he said besides the shark pipe, it needs a ECU bump and cats removed with better headers to make it breath, and then he said its no GT2.
ok, dont get me wrong, but i read hundreds of posts on people downing the 2 and upping the 3 here and everywhere else while i sit on the sidelines because i never driven the 3.
Now,...... sigh....... i aint saying zshxit, im so disappointed, im speechless.
i expected so much. but i did feel this is an awesome daily i can buy, like a carrera S or M3, and even being this new, it is so cheap and affordable now. hell, it even has a much higher front clearance than my 2 to go to the mall to.
i write this pretty much immediately after my drive, so its my exact feeling and review of the car, no sugar coats or anything. If i bring it to a track or the mountains, i might do another review, but as for now, this thing is dead slow in a straight line.... to me.
and please dont post back saying whatever i should of done, the car is sitting in my garage till the owner gets back and i can go out 10 more times and it will still feel slow to me.
now after writing a book, i have to say the gear box shifting is one of the best i used, its a little crunchy when cold, but its short, precise, and pure awesomeness when it gets going, even better than my CGT i must say, but its engine is mismatched in this exercise, maybe i like my zshxit overpowering, i dont know, but this thing sure feels REALLy underpowered for its chassis.
the car in question, before its awesome matt transformation :

There is an honest review for you. Thank you. I have always pined for a gt3 despite having had several gt2s... I will definitely have to test drive one on the street (I have driven several on track) before making the jump. I would try the 4.0 rs before you write all gt3s off though.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know this was the thread where all your cars were supposed to be listed. My bad for trying to contribute.

the gt3 is not a superfast car, its actualy one of the slowest hypercars when it comes to straight line performance, this car only comes alive on the track, thats where it should win you over,
for the record i was also wasnt impressed when i drove one for the first time on the street
