Porsche plans Ferrari 458 rival

From the sounds of it (and my own speculation) price wise I would expect it to be near the current 911 price point and use a majority of the same interior pieces. Engine wise I think it will use the same specs as the 911 as well, to save development costs and tooling for production. The trade off for or the argument for this will be that the rear seat is now out-moded reducing the 'every-day-supercar' mantra that the 911 has. The trade does increase the dynamics portion of the new car though so it will be essentially a 'new 911 version' that is near the same price and gets rid of the GT3 or GT2 and their respective RS versions, allowing room for future special versions.

They did a dandy job on the 918. I'm sure it'll look just fine.

In an interview to Evo, Mueller said that there will be a next generation GT2 RS because people will miss the power. We already know there will be a next generation GT3, that will participate in Grand-Am and FIA GT3. However, I think that this new 458 rival could take the place of the GT3 RSR in GT2 racing. That would be a good thing, as it would be more competitive with it's better balance, and there would still be GT3s on the field because of the GTC class. But where this car will fall into place on the market... Why does every car have to fill a market gap? If you want a mid engined Porsche that's faster than the Cayman, go for it! I bet it will be slower than a GT2 RS, but remember, the GT2 RS also costs 250k as will this car. For the money, you will be getting a lot more car, instead of just an extremely pumped up 911 Carrera. I bet a lot of people would buy this over a GT3 and GT2 because of it's carbon structure, light-weight construction, high power, different engine, new design, balance etc. But, just so this car turns out how we want it, we should petition a flat 8 and manual gearbox! This car needs to be unique from it's competitors. Not just another 500hp V8 mid engined car with stupid flappy paddles.
