The last Porsche I enjoyed being in was Jack's 993 (this includes numerous 700-800 hp Switzer cars, EvoMS cars, etc.). I guess I'm immune to the Porsche Kool-Aid.

True. Still, it seems like Porsche management (VW) is adamant on taking attention away from the "911" models again ... the same thing happened with the 928, and that went SO well.
That stuff works for cars like the Panamera and Cayenne, but I think the guys lusting after Porsche sportscars are lusting after 911s. I could be wrong.

The guys lusting after, and have the means to buy, the 918 are Carrera GT and above owners. The car will be $600,000 to $800,000. Halo cars are great, generate press for the brand and lets face it are profitable (Bugatti being the exception). I do not think this project takes away from the 911 line, hopefully it increases brand image and helps sell more 911's
In the case of Mercedes was the SLS produced to draw attention away from the lesser AMG product? Nope. Granted the Porsche is even on a grander scale due to the higher pricepoint. Did the Enzo make the 360 buyer lose focus? Probably made him want a Ferrari even more. It's a supercar, not a 911.

Yup, if anything it's only going to make your 911's better as the tech trickles down. It's positive!
I view it differently. Porsche is currently offering about 20 versions of the 911, the GTS and Speedster being the most recent with more to come. It seems that they are not taking away, but offering more with every variation and it's accompining marketing blitz.
