Funny you should mention that. I was just reading something that in order to meet fuel regulations, Porsche might want to go with a more natural energy source. It's actually an exclusive technology, but it still stays true to the rear drive rear engine 911 philosophy. This new 911 is expected to debut with the 991. There will also be an S variant which features TWO camels! Coming soon. Here is the latest spy shot.

 

Ok, well i just had ANOTHER 30 minute conversation with my Porsche guy, who got word FROM Stuttgart on this new GT3 RS Limited edition, he will NOT tell me WHO it is in Stuttgart BUT here is what i got:
it WILL be the LAST 6 cyclinder 911, it WILL be a 4L. the new 991 is a V-8 Porsche doing this for emissions reasons, the 991 will be 2 seat only. He said the RS LE "may" have a carbon hood and fenders and lighter suspension. So we will see

 

Whoaaa last v6 911!! Crazy that is like the days of the last air-cooled engines. Seems this may be the car to have, esp with the bump to 4 L

 

he did GUARANTEE that the "new 911" WILL be a v-8, claimed be had already driven it in Germany, so i would bet he was right about at least that part. Be closer to the 4 cyl. 912 turned 6 cly. 911 days. 40 years as a 6 cylinder though

 

^^ That's the most upsetting news ever. I truly hope you're wrong. It won't be a 911 with out a flat-6. A watercooled engine wasn't too big a deal, but this is. Maybe a V8 will be optional? If not, hopefully a conversion is possible. Not even a flat-8? The Porsche 911. R.I.P. 1963-2012

This can't go well. No rear seats, and a V-8? Why not put the engine at the front why'll you're at.

this is getting intresting. its does make sense since you can only go so far with the 6 cyl. this is definitely a big deal though.

Porsche has pulled lots of surprises. There have been many rumors, and hopefully this is one of them. Sure he drove a V8 911 (I can't 100% trust that), but was Porsche just testing a V8 engine in a mule, or is it true. I can't see Porsche doing a V8 911. They spent nearly 50 years balancing the flat-6 rear engine configuration, and now they have to perfect the V8 rear engine configuration. Until we hear word from Porsche themselves, I think it's safe to say there will be no V8 911.

About his GUARANTEE that it's a V8, and he drove it... What exactly is his position that Porsche would let him drive a prototype.
