The Carrera GT carbon tends to turn an yellowish orange, and this is due to the type of resin that Porsche uses. I wouldn't really call it a problem though because this is a structual carbon that is more about strength and weight than anything else.

A year or two ago VR Alexandre had a vid about his CGT and showed how badly the carbon from his roof panels were yellowing plus added that the factory refused to do anything about it. When a company known for build quality like Porsche has issues like this its very eye opening.

Shouldn't happen anyway.

I've read something about the possible expiration of carbon fiber due to a loss of torsion resistance and flexibility.

Would this mean that a car like a CGT or F50 have an expiration date?

Does anyone knows about CF expiration?

You certainly are interested in carbon fiber....

CF, being as close to"inert" as most anything on the planet, has no measurable half life, at least not in any practical sense. The issue is the resin used in a particular application. The toughest parts to make (and make last) are invariably small, thin pieces such as vent surrounds, etc. Put them in a hot, sunny location, and you've created the perfect torture chamber. "UV Inhibitors" can help to a degree, but bring their own baggage to the party. The resin most often used with CF these days is a four part, asymmetrical rubber-based epoxy, calendered onto whatever CF cloth chosen, on either one or both sides of the fabric, in any chosen thickness. The part is then vacuum-bagged, auto-claved, baked, or in some cases (none automobile-related that I know of) simply exposed to sunlight. God's Porsche is made almost entirely of CF. His vent surrounds are not.

FYI- most carbon will do that if left in blazing sun for hours/days throughout the car's lifetime. So it is no suprise a steering wheel or dash-mounted vent (both in direct sunlight) would do this.

Wax and sunshades really help.

It is more about the clear coat/resin.

Over time, heat will cause the clearcoat to seperate from the CF and trap air between the two. Clear coat may also yellow.

Again, it was the clear coat. Treat external CF just as you would paint. Any paint/clear coat will oxidize if exposed to harsh sun rays for long periods of time.

CF wheel is tacky looking. Belongs in a pimp mobile.
