Spied: 2013 BMW 4-Series Convertible
Spotted today in BMW's typical dizzying camouflage is an almost production ready BMW 4-Series Convertible. As in the 3-series convertible it replaces the new 4 will feature a power retractable hardtop. Power will carry over from the newly released BMW 3-Series Sedans, seen here (New 3-Series Info Thread), and M-Sport and M versions will follow later on. Look for the 4 Series line-up to debut sometime in 2012

+1, what the hell is the purpose of a ugly looking 4'er? Is this saying that there will no longer be a 3 series convertible, but instead a 4 series that is only convertible? what about the coupe and sedan versions? and wagon? do they each get a number too? I deem the wagon the 3.6 series.
edit: are we sure they didn't steal this from a different manufacturer?

5-series (Sedan, Touring and GT)
6-series (Coupé, Convertible and Gran Coupé)
Therefore, 4-series would make sense, as it is based on the new 3-series. However, the new M3 Coupé becoming "M4" would be complete marketing failure. The original M3 has always been a Coupé, therefore keeping the Sedan as an M3 would just be plain wrong.

BMW has used badging to influence marketing. It's pathetic.
328 was actually 3.0 liter
335 is a not 3.5 or 3.3 liter
If BMW wants to be consistent about naming their sedans, they should name the 6 series grand coupe a 7 series. But they won't because they already have a 7. And don't kid ourselves thinking that grand coupe is not a sedan. it's got 4 doors and 4 seats. If you buy into their cool aid, I suppose CLS is not a sedan either.
Porsche doesn't use such gimmicks. I think BMW should be more transparent.
