Post AT&T tapped to connect future BMWs

Now this is some interesting technology folks! Translogic reports:
Details are scarce, but BMW and AT&T have entered into an agreement for the telecommunications giant to provide next generation Bimmers with wireless data services. AT&T's network will be used by the automaker to enhance and expand its BMW Assist telematics system, which includes the normal emergency contacts and concierge services, along with traffic, weather, news and fuel price information. Neither company has offered a time frame for the rollout, but we've been told to expect more information in the coming months. Let's hope Big Blue's network can cope with it...

Road & Track had a spot about future BMW tech. Another cool feature in the works is the ability to link your credit card/gym pass/etc to your key fob.

This is something I would like to learn more about at the Det Auto Show. BMW has a host of technology goodies coming in the next few years.

Harvey, I also heard about the key fob feature from my dealer. I want to be able to start and warm up my car on cold days and set temp control from my phone/computer. I thought Mercedes had something like this for their cars...

So they picked the worst carrier to partner with? (in the US market at least)

Actually,

BMW have this feature in the works, too. It will be mated to the iphone as a free downloadable app on new 5 and 7 series!

You can start, lock/unlock, cool and heat to desired temp

Great, now my iPhone will have more dropped calls.

Matt - last thing I want is my credit card on my keyfob! I just called one of my cc companies to send me a card without the blink! feature. That app to run the heater/ac sounds cool though!
