Best for first car?

Hi,
I stand by what I said about the MX5. Maybe it's different in America, but I wouldn't be caught dead in one.
Once you have a short list, join a model specific forum and have a look through the common problems on there.
Cheers,
Nik

Nope, it's the same story here in America (although amongst auto enthusiasts it is generally regarded as the answer to every automotive related question), but the majority of the Miatas on the road here are actually driven by old men it seems like. I agree with you in that the Miata's styling is kind of girly, but with a slightly lowered suspension and a rollbar, I think it does a lot to deflect the stereotype. I personally don't care what anybody thinks from the outside, as long as I'm having fun at an affordable cost.

Changed my mind, I want to get a car soon. Saw a nice Miata, but was sold already.
No good Miata deals at the minute. But check this out. Am I an idiot or genius? Great deal, close to me as well.

Don't know what I was thinking. What do you guys think of this?
94 Miata R edition
Outside of the ad, I can say the car has no service records, but was professionally inspected by a mechanic. The seller is very upfront, not shady, and the price is not negotiable.
Any advice?

I got very close to buying that red r package and got the price down a little, but it was still just too much as to where if something did happen to go wrong I'd be broke.
The search continues! If you guys see any great manual cars in the tri-state are within the 5k range, post 'em up here. I'm looking at everything from 914s, GTIs, Miatas, Fox-bodies, the Focus/Mini, maybe an Alfa (very small possibility, also maybe Fiat or MG), any wagon, maybe a Subaru, older BMWs etc. Pretty much anything manual, older, and not riced out or "slammed". I also prefer lack of power everything depending on the car.
