It's worthy to note that it wasn't GPS that they used. GPS only works if: the car is ON and can see the sky.
The car was located using LOJACK- which is self powered when the car is off, and uses low radio frequency- It's no joke. It works like a charm!

I can relate to this story, well maybe slightly.
The Indian Government is on fire since last year after many Supercars were found to be brought into the country illegally. When traced, it was found out the all were reported stolen.
