Current Car Most Likely To Become Collectible

Everyone is bringing up exotic supercars... Well, of course they will be desirable as collectibles. They are collectible the day they are launched as new. No cigar for picking them out!

However, the interesting exercise is to figure out which cars will be collectible in the future that are not sen as such today!
Which cars have made an impression in the automotive history books?

Looking 50 years ahead, I can bet on these:

Mazda Miata
The car that re-invented the roadster. Looking at all the cars launched as a response to the Miata, it's easy to predict that it will be seen as a classic game-changer in 50 years.

Toyota Prius
The first generation, of course. The first commercially successful hybrid. Enough said.

BMW Z8
Very limited production, beautiful car. That carries a lot of weight in collector circles.

VW Golf GTI
Launched a whole new trend of high performance compact cars. A well preserved, first generation GTI will be a museum showpiece in 50 years.

One exotic we cant really avoid on this kind of list:

Bugatti Veyron
Why? Because it won't happen again. Ever. No car manufacturer will ever be allowed by their Board of Directors to launch such a ridiculously expensive project and lose that amount of money on every car sold... Mainly because there are so few Ferdinand Piech's around running car companies like their own personal playground!

Do your fingers hurt from typing that?

And yeah I can see that those are important but then again, there are millions of each of those cars runnin around streets, they aren't exactly my first choice in a car that would be a serious investment.

Take the VW Beetle, very collectible, but you could get a good one for the price of a bran new beetle. Not exactly like winning the lottery.

They are great cars, don't get me wrong, but I can't see any of those appreciating more than an Aston One-77.

gmaccormack is an unknown quantity at this point
Z8 are quite rare. The 0ne77 is a nice car but hardly a strong seller. It's still not sold out, and one customer purchased 10 so without him many would still be left. The Aston is way way way over priced. The Bugatti doesn't retain it's value at all. 10000 miles halves the price to the car. It won't be a good investment for 20+ years. They built to many.

Not really very creative using the One-77 as your main example. The One-77 was made to be a collectors item in the future, just like the Reventon, and a lot of the others in this thread. Obviously Miatas and Prius' will never be worth what a One-77 is.

I don't think you're getting my point. Of course the One-77 will be collectible. There's no fun in making a list of low production, high performance, high cost cars like the One-77 that we already know will be collectible.
