What Should I Do?

Yeah I've been just a lurker for awhile; any advice about other cars to consider? E46 M3, elise, etc.?

The E46 would be ok, but spring for the 92 if you can. This would make a solid DD and give you a step up in room and comfort, but also a step toward the plainer side.
I've recently become in love with the s4. I've heard only great things about Audi recently and I feel that an RS4 would be a better bet than either of the M3's out there. You get the speed and performance but also a back seat and some more space, plus all wheel drive for the bad climate. This would absolutely be a great DD.
As for the elise, no way. You get none of the benefits of the others and have virtually no space at all. Although a cool car, it's probably one of the last cars I'd purchase as my only vehicle.
The 993, M3s, and RS4 seems like the best option in that range and I can't think of any others to add
so in order:
993
RS4
e92 M3
e46 M3

I say just get the 993. Classic porsche is always bad ass. I have no interest in the 993, but I am after a nice 964 in the coming years, but thats basically the same boat. Your commute is short, which will keep the miles low and allow for those long sunday morning drives that we all love to take. Climate might be an issue, as I can't imagine a 993 C2 is too fantastic in the winter, but if you can rock it then go for it. If your in warm climates, get a 911 cab and drive the shit out of it with the top down every day and love it. It will definitely feel special whether your driving to starbucks or going out to dinner. It can hold its own and will get some looks. Plus you'll be able to walk outside and just admire it. As others have posted across the board, there a few things more expensive than a cheap porsche. I've seen some 993's running as low as the mid 20's so keep in mind there will be much maintenance with it and it will probably have higher costs. If you have the time and ability to work on your own cars, then this is the perfect choice because you will not only be able to drive it, but you will end up loving it.

Climate is not an issue - I live in Atlanta. No cab though - ruins the roofline and detracts from dynamics.
I have neither the time nor the skills to work on a car, unfortunately.
I'm just torn as to whether I should wait a bit longer for a GT3, although I might feel self conscious driving one at a young age.
