Anyone owned a Toyota FJ?

Ben, I have owned both and when I went to buy another one, I bought the Rubicon. It comes down to what your really want to do with it. Here are the pros and cons that I can see for both.

FJ Pros:
Great engine and transmission combo
Capable offroad on medium trails
Comfortable interior, great for long trips, quiet inside
FJ Cons:
HORRIBLE visibility
Not the easiest to get in the backseat... if you have kids, you may as well leave them at home

Wrangler Pros:
Top off... need I say more?
Great offroad, solid front axle
Not bad to daily drive. Good visibility and in stock form gets good gas mileage and is actually comfortable on the highway... I was shocked.
Wrangler Cons:
Not the most powerful engine.
Build quality is so-so, but everything works as it should.
I of course could not leave well enough alone so I modded both of mine. In modded form, the FJ was still very comfortable and a joy to drive. The Jeep was a beast offroad but suffered on the highway. Around town was great but anything over 70mph would just kill it, but once again, it was pretty heavily modded with a lift, 35" tires, bumpers, locker, etc. Probably had an extra 500 lbs added to it.

Thomas thanks for chiming in. You addressed two of my biggest concerns confirming the visibility isn't that great in the FJ and that the Wrangler is still underpowered.
I actually thought the TJ wrangler was a great platform with the 4.0 inline 6 motor.
Being totally honest the Wrangler is much more visually appealing too me. I need to go and drive both and think about it before making any decisions.

A site I always keep my eyes on is www.selectjeeps.com This guy always has the most well maintained jeeps around. He is about 20 miles away from me. I apologize in advance for any money clicking the above link may cost you!
