3d TV's?
#21
As much as I want one for personal use the technology is still in its infancy. Panasonic (or was it Samsung?) almost has it to a no glasses required technology. The TV will basically scan the room and find sets of eyes and divide its refresh rate amongst the people in the room. Such that no matter where one sits you'll get your own 3D image
Sony also has a cool patent where they can divide the TV's refresh rate into 60Hz segments and use the TV/PS3's power to display two unique "screens" so that twobpeople could effectively be watching the same screen yet seeing completely different things. So no more s[lit-screen multiplayer, each person would get their own "screen."
Very cool stuff. So I'd say wait until Christmas at least for a new generation of 3D TV to be out or some other progress.

You'll definitely want 240Hz if you're going to keep this TV for awhile. No one is really sure of the technologies coming down the pipeline so with 3D you're best to go as high as possible. As for backlit/edgelit , my 65" Sharp is backlit and only sometimes do I notice it. That said, edgelit is (logically) much better.
Read up on the article I posted. You want backlit with local dimming for LED's.

Today I`ve played Need for Speed Shift on such an 3D thing...
It was kinda blurry though...well not blurry but not 100% sharp

My pretty old (read 3+ years) 55" Hitachi plasma that has been relegated to the workshop has never had any issue with burn in while using it with my PC for gaming (which would be deadly for burn in as there is plenty of static solid images on the panel), I think you a bit out of line claiming all new plasmas will be toast... I honestly can not remember anyone I know in the last 5 odd years suffering from any permanent burn in on a plasma.

The sales guy at Magnolia was fiddling with the Blu-ray player playing Planet Earth.
He paused it at a scene with white background with one of those intro logos and left to do something else.
We wandered off to check out the 81F Samsung and other stuff and forgot about the FHD1.
We came back probably less than an hour later to see that it was still paused, and got the sales guy to restart it.
I would leave you to guess what happened to the screen.
To argue that plasma can be made to do the kind of display tasks that LCD's can is simply being a fanboi. Or perhaps you would like to open up a Word document displaying a full page of black text on white background, then leave it for say, 2 hours.
