3d TV's?

We use ours to surf the web and type up word documents for work and play video game.
After a few hours of white background with black lettering Word session, there is no burn in.
Try that on even today's plasma, and it's toast.

TVs, 3D or 2D are pretty cheap relative to what they were a year or two ago. Listen to stuka's recommendation about local dimming. Keep in mind that local dimming is still not a 'complete' technology yet. Due to the fact that the LEDs are much larger than the pixels in todays home-sized TVs, there are far less LEDs than pixels; causing 'bloom', which is an aura of brightness around images over a dark background. Unfortunately the TV market is still full of tradeoffs.
He also recommended arguably one of the best TVs you can buy, though it's now labeled the 8000, no longer the 8500. There is also the 6800, which is Samsung's other local dimming unit, which lacks 3D.
Full disclosure: I like 3D.

But right now, OLED is in the are you fning joking price. SONY made one and no one bought it, because the technology is way way too expensive.
The blooming is most evident during movie credit at the end, because the scrolling basically means that the LED's have no time to turn themselves off.
But short of that, it is quite nice, and you don't have to worry about killing your TV if you are not careful with gaming and with computer hookup.
I have the original first gen local dimming LED's, the Samsung 81F, and I still love it.

got my samsung 8000 model today. Let's just say it's quite an improvement over the 5 year old 32" viewsonic it replaced, and at half the price. The only thing that bothers me is that the "SAMSUNG" letters are backlit on the bottom frame, somewhat distracting. If I can't figure out how to turn that off I'll probably just slap some electrical tape over it

Go to your local Best Buy and check it out. The glasses are pretty retarded, but at least they're not the paper dealies with the red and blue lenses. Truth be told, it was kinda cool. I wouldn't pay extra for it, but neat nonetheless.
