XBOX360 Elite or new PS3...
#21
PS3 Pros:
1- free online interaction.
2- Built in wifi.
3- Blue ray player.
4- built in browser.
5- HDD can be replaced and upgraded.
Cons:
1- Online interaction and interface are retarded ad not so user friendly, adding friends to a game, inviting people to a game is no where near the ease of the XBOX.
2- Load times are too long due to the Blue ray readers being limited by technology, and the files are much larger than those stored on DVD.
3- love it or hate it controller.
XBOX pros:
1- Hands down the best interface.
2- Online gaming is very straightforward and easy.
3- Facebook and twitter sync and access.
4- access to huge entertainment library online via MS network.
6- sync with windows media center is sweet, you can get media from any device on your network.
7- Forza 3 (/thread)
Cons:
1- Hardware is weak, very weak.
2- you have to pay for on-line access (USD49/year), that said, you get what you payfor.
3- no browsing.
4- no built in wifi.
I am biased to X360, even though the PS3 is much better on paper the 360 offers more FUN and in the end that's what gaming is all about. if your sons friends are on PS3 get him that, if they are on 360 win/win. Perosnally, I would get Wii for the house, its fun for the kids and everyone else, but wait for the new one.

I'd say the 360 is definitely the better option for your son, but do keep in mind it does not have built-in wifi. If you can't run a network cable to it, you can always buy an accessory to enable wifi, but it will be another thing you'll have to buy that could potentially fail.

for me, it's simple, i've had both...i couldn't stand the xbox controller. I still have my PS3, and I have zero complaints. At times I do wish I had my 360 because most my friends play on it.

5- HDD can be replaced and upgraded.
Cons:
1- Online interaction and interface are retarded ad not so user friendly, adding friends to a game, inviting people to a game is no where near the ease of the XBOX. Agreed.
2- Load times are too long due to the Blue ray readers being limited by technology, and the files are much larger than those stored on DVD. Simply not true, and the benefit of using the BR disc is that there aren't any mulit-disc games where you have to swap discs in the middle of playing, as found on the 360.
3- love it or hate it controller.
XBOX pros:
1- Hands down the best interface. Subjective.
2- Online gaming is very straightforward and easy.
3- Facebook and twitter sync and access.
4- access to huge entertainment library online via MS network. As does the PS3.
6- sync with windows media center is sweet, you can get media from any device on your network. Syncing with PS3 Media Server is far superior, though it can also be used with 360.
7- Forza 3 (/thread) GT5 (/thread)
Cons:
1- Hardware is weak, very weak. As a result, many multi-platform games are developed for the 360 first, then ported to PS3 (easier to copy a game then to make a superior version and chop/downgrade), and therefore look/perform slightly better on the 360.
2- you have to pay for on-line access (USD49/year), that said, you get what you payfor. Can often be found for $29.
3- no browsing.
4- no built in wifi.

I'm about to buy one of these things. What's the difference between the elite and the normal 360?
Is it worth getting a 3 yr warranty for 50.00? Usually i wouldn't even think about it but i recall hearing about some light of doom or some shit that rendered the machine useless...

I would get the Elite because it has a larger HD and the black case. Also, I would shell out the $50 for the extended warranty because, on occasion, the "red ring of death" (light of doom as you call it) shows up, rendering the machine useless, and you are screwed if you don't have it.

Are there any particular games that are swaying you towards xbox? Just wondering why you're choosing xbox over ps3, you said you like both.
