Great pictures, Jas...! For the sake of contributing to this thread with more than praise, here's some information Jas and I shared a while back, as per a discussion on F40s produced by year.

Okay, first let me preface this with the term "model year" for US-spec cars vs. Euro cars. If a Euro car is built in December of, say, 1995, then it's a 1995 "model year" (Europe doesn't recognize the term "model year" because they don't do what the US does). But, in some cases, if a car for the US market is built in December of, say, 1995, then it could most likely be a 1996 "model year" car. So, with that said, below is an excruciatingly detailed bit of information. If any of it is confusing, let me know.

US-spec F40s
The first US-spec F40 is 84729, built in 1990, listed as a 1990 USA model. The second US-spec F40 is an LM comp conversion built in May of 1990, so the first one (84729) was probably built right before that. That brings us to 93 1990 USA model F40s.

The first 1991 USA model F40 - built in 1990 - is 87345, which is the 94th F40 of the 213 US-spec F40s. The third 1991 USA model F40 - built in October, 1990 - is 87400, which means that the first 1991 USA model F40 was probably built not too long before that one.

I don't know in which year 87932 was built, but it is the gap for US-spec F40s actually built in 1991. The last US-spec F40 I have listed as being built in 1990 is 87895, and the first US-spec F40 I have listed as being built in 1991 is 87969.

The first 1992 US-spec F40 I have listed is 90354, built in 1991 (most likely in July). The gap between 1992 USA model F40s built in 1991 and 1992 is with 92660. Right before it is 92622, a 1992 USA model F40 built in 1991; right after 92660 is 92708, a 1992 USA model F40 built in January, 1992. The rest of the US-spec F40s are 1992 USA models, built some time in 1992.

So let's recap...

There are 93 1990 USA model F40s (84729-87324), all built in 1990. There are 58 1991 USA model F40s (87345-90279), the first 21-22 of which were built in 1990. There are 60 1992 USA model F40s (90354-93627), the first 38-39 of which were built in 1991.

European F40s
The very first F40 - 73015 - was built in 1987. It was first seen publicly on July 21st, 1987, during a press debut at Fiorano. Ferrari made six more F40s for 1987, bringing the grand total of 1987 F40 production to seven (73015-75052), including a Michelotto LM and a GT. Ferrari's first F40 of 1988 was 76354; 79 F40s later, they made 79870. After that, there was a string of seven F40s whose build year is unknown (79883-79934), including two Michelotto IMSA LMs and a GT. After 79934, Ferrari made 79971, which is possibly the first F40 they built in 1989 (but I can't say with any degree of certainty). Ferrari made at least 301 F40s in 1989, counting from 79971 to 83962. After 83962, there's a gap of 16 F40s (83972-84090) whose build year are unknown. Right after 84090, Ferrari made 84104, which was built in 1990. If I start from 84104, then Ferrari made at least 365 F40s in 1990, ending with 87948. In 1991, Ferrari began F40 production with 87968, producing 302 units and stopping with 93643. Here's where it starts to get a little hairy, because there are some 1991 F40s that were built after 1992 F40s - or some 1992 F40s that were built before some 1991 F40s, all depending on how you want to look at it.

In 1992, Ferrari built 92744, their first F40 for the European market in 1992. Europe's 1992 F40 production stopped with 95828, bringing the 1992 total to 110.

There were three Michelotto F40 LMs built in 1993 (97881, 97893, 97904), one Michelotto LM built in 1994 (99401) and one F40 comp conversion built in 1994 (99893).

So let's recap...

Seven F40s were built in 1987, at least 79 F40s in 1988, 301 F40s in 1989, at least 365 European F40s in 1990, at least 302 European F40s in 1991, at least 110 European F40s in 1992, three F40s in 1993 and two F40s built in 1994.

Worldwide Recap
So here's the worldwide breakdown, which combines the US-spec numbers with the European numbers

1987: 7
1988: 79
1989: 301
1990: 365+93: 458
1991: 302+58: 360
1992: 110+60: 170
1993: 3
1994: 2
Total: 1,380

Disclaimer: Now I have a total of 1,444 F40s, so that leaves 64 F40s unaccounted. I have 40 year gaps (as mentioned earlier), bringing the mystery total to 14. I have one F40/512 TR serial number discrepancy and there's always the possibility that I made a few mistakes, miscounted some things, double-counted some things or whatever. But that's my disclaimer and I'm sticking to it.

I don't get how a 1992 car could possibly be built before a 1991 car? Is it something to do with the differences in USA/Euro spec "model years"? Can you please clarify?

And you missed a few others I think. There were some GTE's built later then some years you have mentioned.
