550 Barchetta or 575 Superamerica?
#32
As a new owner of a 575M Maranello, and after doing so much research on the 550/575 range of Ferrari's, I would definitely go for the 575 SuperAmerica. There are many reasons:
1. The SuperAmerica is the last of the line for the 575, all issues that may have initially plagued this generation have been completely worked out.
2. The SuperAmerica uses the last generation of this engine and has the highest rating.
3. As someone who used to be a proponent of manual boxes I can now say that the F1 transmission is a true revelation and makes the car much more enjoyable to drive.
4. The soft top on the Barchetta is laughable and doesn't even offer decent protection against the elements, let alone security. It was not designed to be used at any significant speed while up, but really just to cover the interior while mostly stationary. There have been many complaints about the soft-top and there is even a fix offered by an aftermarket house in Germany for it. On the other hand the SuperAmerica offers security, and open air, the best of both worlds. True there have been issues with the tinting, but I would rather have it stay at full tint and have the security than worry about a top that can't even protect me in a drizzle. Furthermore, as opposed to someone else's comments here, I think the SuperAmerica rear end looks "Mega".
5. The fact that slightly more 575 SuperAmerica's were made than 550 Barchetta's does not necessarily mean the Barchetta will hold its value better over the long term. Traditionally, the last iteration of a design, which in this case is the SuperAmerica, tends to be valued higher. The GTC is another story.

I'm affraid not to be able to afford a 250 GT SWB California one day but if i could, it will be a 575 SA Bleu Tdf, Daytona Seat Manual and HGTC!
And another one with F1 gearbox for daily use!
No matter about few kilos heavier (come on guys, more than 500 Hp!) or ordinary style(only 559 built!).The driver make the difference!
Fioravanti got an amazing idea and the glass changing is just amazing
. Although i ve never been in one...
But as the 550 and then the 575 are, according to me, state-of-the-art, both Barchetta & SA still amazing car
And as we said in France: Les goûts et les couleurs... (that's just a matter of taste)
