If you can find a 575 6-speed buy it twice! If not get a 550!

Great cars!

Don't really like either one. I saw a 575SA in person and thought it was the worst looking ferrari I have seen. Made the Mondial look good.

I would take the SA. Saw a beautiful example at Ferris this week. I fell in love with the car, and I might have drooled on it.... just a little bit

Mike.Great question.
I think both cars a very special. An open, rare, ferrari v12 is a good long term hold. I think we are also in the sweet spot where both are old enough to be fully depreciated but not fully in the collectors' sights yet. The kids that grew up with these as icon cars can't quite afford them yet.
For me the Barchetta is slightly more special. Firstly it is the first of the two. The SA would not have existed if the Barchetta had not worked at all. Secondly the SA heavy rear with the roof down give more of a targa looks than a true convertible. The barchetta looks much more frivolous, impractical and.. therefore special. This is obviously just a personal opinion.
Good luck with finding the right one. I am sure I speak for all of us... we look forward to seeing the pictures!

The 550 Barchetta has the classic Ferrari manual transmission and therefore gets my vote

Article in Forza recently outlined the repair issues with the SA top.
