The previous owner (a musical arranger for Sonny & Cher) had cooked the GTO's engine after an oil line burst--remember that the GTO has a dry sump which is located behind the passenger--and he was wanting to buy a 427 Cobra instead of rebuilding the engine. Sal gave me his phone number and I called to negotiate with him. I got the GTO and he got his Cobra.

I bought some cars to bring back to L.A. for resale including some Maserati Mistrals and a Quattroporte and some Bentleys.

It took a couple months but it felt like FOREVER (!!).

 

Ok don't answer if you don't want to but how much did a used gto with a bad motor go for back then?

 

About the price of a new Cadillac and a used Alfa--$7K.
