ipod issues

I have an 09 Cayenne as a loaner. Sweet rig...feels smaller than it is.

The ipod connector connects and charges the unit but on the screen it says "no ipod found". What am I doing wrong? Tried with a 2nd gen nano and a 1st gen iPod Touch, neither worked.

The car didn't come with a manual so I can't RTFM and Teh Google has revealed nothing.

Thanks
