De-badging vs. De-ceiving

So guys, I just tried something new but would like to get everyone's opinions. I de-badged my new Cayenne Turbo S and had my dealer put a simple "Cayenne" badge on. I did this because unlike a 911, which is ostentatious to most people no matter what the letters say on the back, there are many Cayennes on the streets and so most people know that a base V6 Cayenne is no more expensive than most quality SUVs out there. I just felt like a bastard driving around a ridiculously expensive truck in this economy when people are looking for work so thought it was a good thing to do. I probably wouldn't have cared in my 20s but I feel that erring on the side of caution is better with young kids around.

I simply enjoy driving my CTTS for its amazing engineering and actually prefer people not to notice it unless they are fellow enthusiasts, who would spot what it really is anyway and appreciate it. I also rarely wash it to keep that nondescript dirty look.

Do you guys think I'm being paranoid or do you agree with my approach?

I don't know where you live but I think you have put way too much thought into it. If you currently own all the cars you claim on you signature (and I don't that you do) I am a little confused as to why it would matter. Plus there will always people who have more and who have less. Everyone has less today no matter what you do or what you didn't do. So enjoy your fortunes and not let today's situation dictate your personal preferences. BTW I don't debadge anything.

I hear you - but it's just out of respect for people going through tough times right now. Sometimes when I see someone driving a flashy vehicle, even I am tempted to think "show off". Because there are so many human beings out there who buy cars just to flaunt their wealth, it makes the rest of us (true enthusiasts who love the cars for their design and how they drive) also look like simple show-offs. It's perfectly understandable how the general public may view this stuff as unreasonable extravagance (my wife included!), and I think it's wise to be cautious, especially in a time when people want to hang Wall Street.

I frankly find myself taking out my white 997TT less often than when I had a black 07 997TT purely because white is so damn conspicuous.

Btw, this is the only place where I feel comfortable even sharing these thoughts and soliciting other opinions because I trust we're all in this for similar reasons.

Funny - somewhat twisted, but funny.
