What's your definition of a sports car?

(btw...I had the X5. Maintenance ate me alive once warranty was out)
and a Maybach 62S has 630hp...but is it a sports car?

no

the Mustang,BMW Z4 are quick and fun to drive but there are certain attributes of a proper sports car that they lack

but everybody has a different perception of what a "real" sports car is to him so let`s just leave it at that

not even threads here on TS with countless pages could give a definition of a sportscar everybody agrees with

Labeling something a "sportscar" doesn't change what the car actually is at all.

A maybach is a large 4 door luxury sedan. On the most basic level, the Mustang was one of the original sports cars. Whether or not you thinks its a "worthy" sports car is obviously your opinion, and while I don't agree, I respect it.

IMO a sports car is a 2 door performance-centric auto. power and handling must be the focus with everything else coming secondary. So something like a phantom coupe, which is quite fast, wouldn't be a sports car because its luxury centric. While the mustang is focused on power and handling.

You're from Germany though. You're not expected to understand the superiority of American muscle.

I always believed that sports cars were lightweight, handled great, on the smaller side and were quick. A mustang is a muscle car, always has been, sure it handles way better now than its predecessors but its still a big, bad ass muscle car. A Boxster S would more accurately represent my view of a sports car.

Porsche....hands down.

(in my MeanMachine voice LOL) - then lower it, spacers, clear corners, fabspeed exhaust, powdercoat the wheels and do some cool interior bits (red belts, lloyds mats, etc) and you will have yourself a cool/special car!!!

How can a car introduced 1964 be one of the original sports cars?

I suppose Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Bentley, Jaguar, Bugatti and a whole bunch of others didn't know what they were doing before Ford set them straight in 1964?

I said one of the originals, not the original. Blue blazes point about muscle cars vs sports cars is a good point and made me think, but I think all muscle cars are sports cars.

This would have made a good thread in and of itself

very well said!!

If one thinks the handling, suspension feedback, steering precision and feedback and weight distribution of a Mustang (stock) is up to par with the one of a sports car then there obviously is a lot left to experience for you

just take a ride in a Pcar like a Cayman S and then come back
