986 Boxster S or Z4 as first car?
#21
I'd love to have a Boxster as a first car, but it'd cost too much initially and in services. But since you're older and will be working at a dealer, go for the Boxster, such a great car, and like you said if anything goes wrong I'm sure they'll help you out in services.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Keep it up!
Of course I'm looking at a manual! I would never, ever, purchase a sports-car with an autotragic gearbox.
It seems like the Boxster S is the obvious choice. If I'll find the right car for the right price, there is no doubt I will be going for the Porsche. I'm thinking Seal Gray/Arctic Silver over Black, 18" Carrera wheels (5-spoke), et.c. Sport-chassis is definitely a must.
While I must say that I clearly understand ECB's way of thinking, I don't think it's a very wise move to purchase the Z4 for basically the same money as the Boxster, just to have something left to desire. If there's no doubt the Boxster is the better car, and I will be able to afford it, then I see no point of going Z4 anymore. Moreover, having driven everything from Volvo V50's, Golfs, 1-series, Z4's, X3's, X5's, 987 Boxster S, the new 991 and 981, and soon the 458 (got a gift-certificate for 20 minutes of driving
), I think the damage has already been done! After having driven a few different sort of cars, I have come to value the sports-car feel. Not that I wouldn't love, lets say an E46 Coupé, but in the long run it wouldn't offer me the best bang for the bucks I believe. Moreover, I would still have quite a bit more cars to tick off my list, after the Boxster.
Thanks for your input anyway ECB, I do value your input! Good luck with your Italy-purchase as well! What are you planning on purchasing?

Im gonna get ripped for this....
Go with a mustang, put some springs on it and be done. Going with an older either one of those, you're looking at potentially rediculous repair bills and unless you have a sugnificant pile of cash stocked away for repairs/insurance etc....its can eat you alive.
If thats not an Option, go with the Porsche. Far superior to the BMW

And mustangs with a few grand worth of tuning will out run porsches all day long. Fact

I just see young people(Me included with my first BMW)trying to buy foreign cars that are super expesnive to even do little things like il changes. My Bimmer was $130 for an oil change. No big deal if you have a good job or some cash, but if you're fresh out of college and broke, that sucks.

Please show me an example of a mustang outrunning a CGT (or a gt3/gt2 for that matter).
