First time back on Track!!!!!

My 986 has made the journey to full Spec Boxster status although we have a number of small things to take care of.

I got to drive the car at NHMS last weekend with PCA. Short story is that the car is a blast to drive.

The first run session the car was running great but then I got pulled in for smoking. My builder, Kenny Conway, was at the event and immediately diagnosed the problem as an overflow from the crankcase vent. With the roof off and then engine cover open, the two of us went on a street journey ensconced by the new orange roll cage. We got a lot of looks! We got some degreaser and went to a hand spray car wash where we cleaned off the engine block. Kenny then put a small hose over the end of the crankcase vent and put the other end into a plastic water bottle. Next session out there was no smoking but the plastic bottle got filled. This was the only glitch in the mission and about 8 more trips on the track yielded no problems. Kenny called Brad Roberts (SPBOX guru) who told us that the newer rigid engine mounts can cause vibrations of the fluid up and out of the crankcase. We basically just needed to puke up some fluid to remedy the situation.

The car was really great on track. I moved to a 255 square tire set up and the improved turn in was noticeable compared to last season. The car was fairly neutral with a touch of oversteer at times. I was running about 3 secs faster versus a time trial I did last year and I’m sure the car has much more to give.

I can’t believe how much attention the car got over the weekend. I guess that’s what an orange fiberglass roof and roll cage does.

There is still about 100-150 pounds of weight that we need to pull from the car. It’s only going to get faster.

These cars are a friggin blast!

That is awesome! You must be thrilled to get it on track and exercise it a bit. Congrats on seeing this project through. Nicely done.

A few more pics.
Main change is the roll bar padding. I bought some Race Ramps for my trailer so that I can actually open the door on the car over the trailer tires! Man this thing is low.
Finally, I made a cool mod where the radio was. I'll let the picture speak.
