Yes, but the purchase price of the G-250 new would be 20 million plus. So it would actually cost you a lot less to own and operate the G-III, seeing as how a G-III can cost between 3 and 5 million http://www.controller.com/listingsde...II/1159264.htm .

You would be saving a ton of money in upfront costs, and financing. That's why it would be more cost effective to have the G-III.

One thing we've relied heavily on are the tax benefits. We use our plane about 65% business use, so we take a large tax write-off (depreciation). It actually paid for itself last year--believe it or not. So if we could cash flow a $20mm dollar plane, we would do it (probably $7mm in depreciation or so on a $20mm dollar plane).

If you're flying a lot, operating costs on these planes are the real killers.

That's awesome. I think we're at $4.35 or so here, and that's with a decent discount off retail. Vegas a few weeks back was $5 something.

This is true. And if I'm not mistaken, you can now depreciate up to 75% of the total value of a new plane, thanks to the stimulus bill.

Cost effective when? Initially maybe. Depending on how often it's in the air the larger capitol outlay / tax benefits + lower per mile makes more sense.

We haven't even started on all the additional inspections, downtime, and other money pit items on older G2s and 3's yet.

Yeah. You can do 100% up to $250k I think, then up to 75% over that threshold.

I've been doing that year over year with our school. The depreciation of the new addition essentially provides the cash in hand (deposit plus some) for the next one.
